Surrounded by state and university officials, Gov. Bobby Jindal on Tuesday signed the bill moving the University of New Orleans from the LSU System to the University of Louisiana System.
"This is going to create a new era for UNO," Jindal said. "UNO is going to do extremely well in the University of Louisiana System."
In the UL System, UNO will "grow and prosper," said state Sen. Conrad Appel, R-Metairie, co-author of the legislation that brought about the change.
UNO had been in the LSU System since its opening in 1958.
