With the help of a $300,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Goodwin College is starting its second formal program to help economically disadvantaged students earn degrees.
As a partner to the MOVE program, which focuses on assisting male students, the college has begun WISE, or Women Invested in Securing an Education. According to the Hartford Foundation, the grant will help between 45 and 60 women over the next three years.
MOVE, which celebrated the first graduates from its program last year, began in 2008 with $300,000 grant.
In addition to helping women who may not otherwise be able to afford college, the WISE program will also target women who are the first in their families to attend college.
