Gee’s long shadow at Ohio State will affect search for replacement

With classes starting at Ohio State on Wednesday, probably the most monumental question the university will face this school year is who will become its next leader.

The competition couldn’t be any more fierce, with Penn State, the University of Michigan and University of Pittsburgh also in a high-stakes race to find new presidents.

But experts say the job at Ohio State will likely be one of the most coveted public-university positions nationwide because of its complexity and huge size — more than 64,000 students and a $5.1 billion budget.
