Former Coach Randy Shannon Sues University Of Miami

Thursday, May 3, 2012
Former University of Miami football coach Randy Shannon is suing the school for breach of contract, claiming that UM has “improperly denied and continues to deny” compensation owed as part of his contract which ran through 2014, according to court documents. Shannon, who was fired by UM on Nov. 27, 2010, filed his civil suit against UM in the Eleventh Judicial Court of Miami-Dade County on April 27, and asked for a jury trial on all claims. In his lawsuit, Shannon contends that his contract was terminated without cause and accuses UM of attempting to prorate the amount of money guaranteed to him even though there is “no reference” of proration in his contract in case of early termination. Shannon, a former UM player and assistant coach, was hired as head coach in Dec. 2006, but received a new contact in May 2010 to run through Jan. 2014.
