FMU to start center to improve college readiness

Francis Marion University will be establishing a new Center of Excellence for College and Career Readiness this year, using grant funding from the Commission on Higher Education.

The center, which will be one of 14 active Centers of Excellence around the state, will be tasked with training teachers to better prepare students for higher education, coordinating the South Carolina Course Alignment Project and creating a new Eighth Grade Academy to be housed at FMU each summer.

The seven-year grant is for $250,000 annually and will fund staff for the center, training and travel expenses for teachers, research and data analysis and the summer camp.
