Fla. colleges going smoke-free

Daytona State College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday will join hundreds of other universities nationally that are emphasizing a healthier lifestyle by making their campuses smoke or tobacco free.

Stetson University in DeLand plans to follow suit in the fall of 2014 after final reviews by staff, faculty and student groups. Bethune-Cookman University and the University of Central Florida already have similar policies in place.

An electronic sign has been notifying students, employees and visitors at Daytona State College's Daytona Beach campus about the new policy, along with smaller yard signs which are also up at the college's various campuses in Volusia and Flagler counties.
