Finals and firearms? Should Pennsylvania's colleges allow students and faculty to carry guns?

While the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PSSHE) in January may vote to permit concealed firearms in designated areas at its 14 state-owned universities, leaders at two local colleges say they won't follow that example.

Currently, with restrictions that generally ban them from school buildings and athletic events, guns are permitted at Shippensburg, Millersville, Slippery Rock, Edinboro, Lock Haven, California and Kutztown universities. Concealed weapons can be carried in open areas and streets.

However, guns would be allowed at all 14 state-owned universities – including Bloomsburg, Cheyney, East Stroudsburg, Indiana, Clarion, Mansfield and West Chester – if approved by the PSSHE in January.
