North Dakota's Supreme Court heard arguments Thursday in the Fighting Sioux nickname dispute.
North Dakota's Board of Higher Education is opposing a law that requires the University of North Dakota to use the Fighting Sioux nickname and an American Indian head logo for its sports teams.
Right now, voters will be deciding the nickname fight. It is to be listed as Measure 4 on the June 12 primary election ballot. But the board wants the justices to stop the nickname vote. The board says the law is unconstitutional.
Supporters of the nickname and the North Dakota Legislature want the Supreme Court to let the vote go ahead.
