A former Old Dominion University professor is suing the university, alleging that a senior faculty member made unwanted sexual advances and, after she complained, was instrumental in ending her career there.
ODU denies the allegations.
Linda Gagen was hired in 2002 as an assistant professor in the department of exercise science, sport, physical education and recreation, part of ODU's Darden College of Education. Beginning early in her ODU career, her lawsuit alleges, she faced unwanted advances from an unidentified senior faculty member, a former chairman of the department.
She complained about the harassment, according to the lawsuit, resulting in "significant enmity" toward her from the senior faculty member. In addition, she claims, that faculty member "had subjected other female employees to significant acts of sexual harassment. The University was made aware of these acts of harassment but never took remedial action."
