Eastern Virginia Medical School is exploring the idea of becoming a medical school under the auspices of the College of William & Mary.
Officials from both schools made a joint announcement this morning, saying the schools have agreed to “exclusively explore” the idea of EVMS becoming the William & Mary School of Medicine.
Each school will investigate the implications of such a combination, according to a statement released this morning.
“It is not known how long the necessary due diligence will take,” read a statement sent by Vincent Rhodes, director of marketing and communications at EVMS. “If W&M and EVMS decide to proceed, the approval of the General Assembly and Governor will be required.”
