In a recent video addressed to the public, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan again reiterated the importance of income-based student loan repayment options and weighed in on the significance of community colleges.
Both issues are correlative; students may be turned off by the higher costs of a four-year institution, but may not consider a two-year institution. Duncan said in the video that community colleges have impact on anyone who chooses to attend one.
"Community colleges, I continue to believe, have this ability to transform young people’s lives, adults’ lives, older people’s lives in very profound ways," he said.
Duncan added that the Obama administration has continued to make investments in two-year institutions, including $5 billion in renovations and upgrades and a $2 billion investment from a partnership with the Department of Labor and private institutions.
