Petoskey High School and North Central Michigan College are teaming up to offer 25 of this year’s Petoskey sophomores a program that will lead to a high-school diploma as well as a no-cost college degree.

“It’s a great opportunity and it helps financially,” said Shelly Ilenich, one of the students getting started in the program.

The Early College partnership, launched this month on a pilot basis, will add a fifth year to participants’ standard high-school enrollment, as well as some college-level coursework. Successful participants will receive an associate degree at the end of that time, in addition to their diploma.

Participants will be taking courses at the high school as well as at North Central’s Petoskey campus.
