Dutchess Community College President David Conklin will retire when his contract expires in August 2014.

Conklin, who will be just shy of his 70th birthday when he steps down, will have led the college for 22 years and will be the second-longest serving president in the SUNY system.

The board of trustees will begin the presidential search process over the next several months, said board President Thomas LeGrand.

“We have 12 months to find a replacement and we should be able to do it in that timeframe and, if we cannot, we could always bring somebody in on a temporary basis,” LeGrand said. “We have a very capable staff there, so, for a short period of time, we would be OK. It is quite a process to do a presidential search. It is time-consuming. There are a lot of people that have to be involved in it, but, at the end of the day, I am confident that we will be able to come up with a good candidate.”
