After eight years on the Hilltop, he will become the president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., on July 1. It was, he says, a difficult decision.
“Things are very, very good at SMU, very good at the Meadows school,” Bowen, 52, said Wednesday in an interview with The Dallas Morning News. “I could not ask for better colleagues or a more supportive community. I feel like we’ve built a great community here, and it’s a joy coming to work. On the other side of things, I’ve done this for eight years. My last book is about liberal arts education, which is my other great passion. And so, I was starting to look for opportunities to do something that was broader than the arts. This opportunity came along, and Goucher College is a great institution.”
