A University of Colorado graduate has committed $2 million to the theater department to set up the campus's first-ever endowed chair in an arts discipline, the school's fundraising arm announced today.
According to CU, the donor -- Roe Green -- received a call about a decade ago from a student fundraiser asking if she'd consider increasing her $100 annual gift to $150 and she replied, "Oh, I think I'd like to give more."
She began funding an annual theater-artist residence program, which is now in its eighth year, at CU. Last month, she expanded her gift and committed $2 million to establish an endowed chair in theater at the Department of Theatre and Dance.
It's the department's first fully endowed faculty position and by far the largest gift ever donated to CU's theater department. Department chair Bud Coleman will hold the Roe Green Chair in Theatre when funding begins in 2015.
