CU-Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano Favors Eventual Car-Free Campus

University of Colorado Chancellor Phil DiStefano on Tuesday said that he would eventually like Boulder's main campus to be closed to cars.

While answering a question about pedestrian safety at the state-of-the-campus meeting, DiStefano said: "I would like to see this campus in the future to not have any cars ... and be completely a pedestrian campus. We need to move to that because there are safety issues as we grow."

In an interview, DiStefano said he envisions there could be off-campus parking and a shuttle system. He said the university, as it develops the east campus will also need to explore ways to shuttle students and employees to the main campus.
