CSU is preparing to take a major step forward in construction of a new on-campus football stadium in Fort Collins.
University officials revealed this week that by next month they will hire a lead contractor to begin pre-construction work on a $243 million, 43,000-seat stadium in the middle of the Fort Collins campus. Colorado State University asks that the project be complete by July 2016, a year later than original projections of August 2015.
The “request for proposals” doesn’t obligate CSU to build the stadium, but it’s a required step under state law. CSU officials say they won’t begin building the stadium until they raise at least half of its total cost from private sources in advance.
