Cosumnes River College broke ground Monday on a new architecture and construction center.

A $1 million donation from the Winn family will help build the Winn Center for Architecture & Construction, according to a news release from Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Sacramento.

The $13.7 million center is expected to be completed by fall 2013. Local bond money and other private donations also will defray the cost.

Matsui and members of the Winn family attended the ceremony.

The Winn family operated Winncrest Homes, which merged in 2000 with national home building giant Lennar Communities.
