As Gov. Bob McDonnell readies his proposed budget, education officials across the state are simultaneously holding out wish lists and bracing for the impact of the state’s ever-tightening financial belt.
“We’re realistic, we read the paper, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed,” said Dan Hix, financial policy director at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
The council recently adopted recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly that call for millions in additional higher education funding.
Making the recommendations is the council’s statutory job, and the recommendations include proposals from the committee charged with coming up with ways to reach the goals in the Top Jobs legislation McDonnell has made a priority.
