Clemson U. officials hope lawmakers restore money for farm programs

Clemson University officials will urge state lawmakers to restore $405,000 for six new positions in two agriculture programs that Gov. Nikki Haley vetoed Thursday.

"We will ask the legislature to override the vetoes that eliminate funding for critical research and extension scientist positions associated with our Emerging Farmers and Precision Agriculture programs," Clemson spokeswoman Cathy Sams said.

Haley also vetoed $300,000 that would be spent to put a new roof on the Walhalla Civic Auditorium and to bring the city's swimming pool into compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
