Kalamazoo College students are putting their books down and slipping their beach sandals on.
Classes are canceled, and buses and vans are scheduled to transport students back and forth to the beaches in South Haven to celebrate the college's tradition of “Day of Gracious Living."
“There will be hundreds of students at the beach,” said K-College Student Commission President Meredith Quinlan. “I’ve been checking the weather every day and today was a beautiful day so we are heading to Lake Michigan to enjoy time together. Some students are doing community service learning projects.”
The holiday was officially endorsed in 1974, just to give students a day off, but the college received complaints about the tradition interrupting curriculum schedules.
