A move is underway to push for the merger of the private Charleston School of Law with the public College of Charleston, instead of allowing it to be sold to InfiLaw System, which owns three other for-profit law schools.
State Rep. Stephen Goldfinch, a Murrells Inlet Republican and School of Law graduate, said key college and state leaders are on board with the plan. Goldfinch is married to Renee Goldfinch, a new member of the College of Charleston’s Board of Trustees.
“I believe the Legislature would support such a merger,” Goldfinch said. “It could be done tomorrow,” he said, but law school founders would have to agree to it.
