Carroll University announced Tuesday it had received a little more than $4 million from the estate of a man who wanted to honor his late wife, a Carroll alumna, by supporting the university's health sciences programs, especially nursing.
Before George Richter of Canada died Christmas Day 2010 at age 96, he created a gift plan in memory of his wife, Gladys McKay Richter. She was a 1936 graduate of Carroll and died in 1992, according to a Carroll University news release.
"Although George was not a Carroll graduate, he developed a keen interest in the university and our students over the years," Carroll President Douglas N. Hastad said in a prepared statement. "We were privileged to have him visit campus on several occasions in his later years."
