Madison Area Technical College president Bettsey Barhorst won the chief executive of the year award at a recent national meeting of community college trustees in Boston.
“President Barhorst’s lifelong passion for education, her visionary leadership and her unflagging commitment to making decisions that place the interests of students first qualify her to receive this prestigious honor,” said Frances Huntley-Cooper, chair of the MATC board.
Huntley-Cooper credited Barhorst’s leadership in making a public case for the college’s $134 million building referendum, which passed in 2010 and is responsible for the major building boom currently happening at the North Side campus.
MATC chemistry instructor Holly Walter Kerby also was honored at the conference in Boston. She won the faculty member of the year award.
