Calvin College's New President Describes How He'll Spend First Months In Office

Michael Le Roy took over as president of Calvin College this week, meeting with faculty members and laying out his plans for his first months in office.

“There’s a lot of details to learn,” said Le Roy, who was officially hired to lead Calvin last month by the Christian Reformed Church of North America. “I know higher education; I’ve been in higher ed for a long time. But to try and learn about the Calvin culture and the way the Calvin community operates is really my primary focus.”

Le Roy, who formerly served as the provost and executive vice president at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., said he’ll spend his first few months putting his listening skills to the test, meeting with everyone from Calvin’s 31-member Board of Trustees to faculty, staff and community members.

His goal: learn what Calvin is doing right and what it can improve.
