Cal State University students return to new tech

Cal State University schools are launching a multipronged approach to bolster student success as fall classes begin today for many campuses throughout the region.

When nearly half a million students pour into the 23 CSU campuses across the state this fall, new online tools will be at their fingertips to help them plan the path toward graduation and meet with the people who will help make that happen.

One of the new web tools is College Scheduler, which allows students to plot their outside commitments – like family, work and extracurricular activities – around classes to see what schedule works best for them. Schools throughout the system are also looking to beef up an advising staff decimated after years of budget cuts, said CSU spokesman Mike Uhlenkamp.
