Cal State Long Beach interim president shares plans, challenges

Donald J. Para, former provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Cal State Long Beach, was appointed in May as interim president while the university searches for a replacement for F. King Alexander. Alexander left this year for a job as president of the Louisiana State University system. In his 26 years at Cal State Long Beach, Para has served in several roles, including dean of the College of the Arts and chairman of the Department of Music. With the fall semester kicking off this week, we asked Para about his plans for the new school year. The nationwide search for a new president will begin in fall 2014.
