Student safety is a top priority for the University of Vermont, but soon staff will expand their focus across the entire country.
Former U.V.M. Police Chief Gary Margolis and Princeton University's former public Safety Director will lead the National Center for Campus Public Safety.
The organization will be Burlington-based and work with U.V.M. The hope is to bring together experts and share successful student safety strategies.
Margolis says colleges remain among the safest places for young people, but sexual misconduct, violence, disease outbreaks and studying abroad still pose significant challenges.
