Booming Fall College Enrollment Creates A College Housing Crunch

With Iowa State University predicting record enrollment this fall, Jared Knight has been handing out candy by the pound.

Knight, ISU's student body vice president, poked his head into room after room at the school's dorms this week, a bucket of melting chocolates in hand to welcome new students.

The University of Iowa is also expecting record enrollment, while the University of Northern Iowa anticipates a fifth consecutive year of increased enrollment. Final figures will be released in September.

Record enrollments have also created a housing crunch at the U of I and ISU, with hundreds of students living in converted residence hall lounges.
