An appointment by Gov. Robert Bentley to the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees is drawing accusations of "political cronyism" from a a Senate Democrat.
An official in the office of Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh confirmed today the Senate plans to consider Tuesday the confirmation of Alabama Secretary of State Beth Chapman as a University of Montevallo trustee.
But Sen. Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, who opposed the confirmation in committee, says Chapman is not qualified for the post. He called the appointment by Bentley "just political cronyism."
"I would have hoped they would want to get away from the political cronyism, but they're apparently content to kick the can down the road some more," he said today.
