Applications Now Open for the 2014 Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Vernier Software & Technology and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) are now accepting applications for the annual Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards. This year’s awards will recognize and reward seven educators – one elementary teacher, two middle school teachers, three high school teachers, and one college-level educator – for their innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, LabQuest, graphing calculator or other handheld device in the science classroom.

Selected by a panel of experts appointed by the NSTA, each winner will receive $1,000 in cash, $3,000 in Vernier products, and up to $1,500 toward expenses to attend the annual NSTA National Conference in Boston, MA. All current K-12 and college science teachers are encouraged to apply by the November 30, 2013 deadline.

“From elementary grade levels to college, there are so many innovative ways data-collection technology can be used in the classroom to engage students in scientific discovery,” said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier. “The Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards provide a great opportunity for STEM educators to be recognized and rewarded for their best practice teaching examples.”

Last year’s Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards winners used data-collection technology for a wide range of investigations, including measuring pH, monitoring nitrate levels, investigating muscle function and neuromuscular reflexes, and more.
