A chief communications officer responsible for overseeing Amherst College’s marketing, communications, public affairs and major events will begin his role on campus in March.
Pete Mackey, vice president for communications and community relations at Bucknell University, was named to the newly created position by college president Carolyn “Biddy” Martin on Monday.
Martin sought the senior staff position as a means of having a person develop and lead a comprehensive communications program that brings together departments including advancement, admissions and student life. She made the selection based on a recommendation from a search committee.
“Pete’s experience, expertise and creative leadership will help us bring our communications to a new level,” Martin said. “His accomplishments as a writer and communicator and his academic background make Pete a good fit for Amherst, given our values and goals.”
