Alabama A&M 'Confident' It's In SACS Compliance As Campus Visit Starts

Officials from Alabama A&M University's regional accrediting agency will be on campus today to start a three-day visit as part of its ongoing inquiry of the school.

The visit by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools was announced in June in a letter to Alabama A&M President Dr. Andrew Hugine from SACS President Dr. Belle Wheelan.

The visit was announced after Alabama A&M's response to SACS inquiry letters in January and February.

"After reviewing the material submitted, (SACS Commission on Colleges) determined that there appears to be sufficient factual information supporting significant noncompliance with the (SACS) Principles of Accreditation," Wheelan wrote in the June 10 letter.
