6 Issues Awaiting Mitch Daniels At Purdue

Mitch Daniels becomes Purdue University’s 12th president on Tuesday.

But Daniels, eager to get to work, will arrive on campus Monday afternoon right after Mike Pence is sworn in as Indiana’s governor.

Daniels’ eagerness is a sign of how packed his initial six months will be as he oversees legislative hearings on the university’s 2013-15 budget, fixing new tuition levels and getting even more acquainted with the nearly 76,000 students and 19,400 employees across the statewide system.

The soon-to-be former two-term governor already has held a few dozen meetings with students, staff and rank and file employees to get a handle on what awaits him and the politics of the West Lafayette campus.
