The records included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and university IDs of people who had been issed an ID since 1998, Loh said today in a letter to the college community. No other information was compromised, he said.

The university recently doubled the number of its IT security personnel and doubled its investment in security tools, Loh said.

“Obviously, we need to do more and better,” he said.

State and federal authorities are investigating, Loh said. Paul Bresson, an FBI spokesman, said by telephone that he couldn’t comment on whether the FBI was leading the investigation.
