A construction crane at the University of Texas at Dallas collapsed Saturday afternoon, killing two construction workers.

The crane, which had been used to build the new Arts and Technology Building, was being dismantled when it fell into the building, said Katherine Morales, the university’s communications director.

The two workers, who had not been identified late Saturday, were employees of an outside construction firm. No UTD students or employees were injured.

University officials were encouraging people to avoid the southeast side of campus while police cordoned off the area so emergency crews could work.
