St. John’s University mourns the passing of the Hon. Basil Paterson ’48C, ’51L, ’79HON, a double alumnus who distinguished himself as a political leader, civil rights champion and labor lawyer during more than 60 years of service to the people of New York State. He was 87.

John Sharp, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System, announced that Deloitte Consulting, LLP has completed their study of Information Technology (IT) infrastructure throughout the A&M System. The study included 29 detailed recommendations with anticipated savings of $200 million over the next ten years or $20 million per year if infrastructure changes are implemented.

Robert Reich, former U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton and Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, will be at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., during the last week of April. Reich has worked in the administrations of Presidents Carter, Ford and Clinton, and is an economic and public policy expert.

Whitman College in Washington received 3,791 applications for its class of 2018, a drastic 40 percent increase over last year. The college—which typically hovers around a 49 percent acceptance rate—has admitted 1,441 applicants so far, bringing its admit rate down to a highly selective 39.5 percent for the current year.
