Apps for Education

Three new apps from Apple are designed to enhance mobile education. Students can engage with textbooks with interactive animations, diagrams, photos, and videos using iBooks 2 for iPad, featuring iBooks textbooks. The iBooks app is free, and most titles in the iBookstore are priced at $14.99 or less. Anyone with a Mac can create iBooks textbooks using iBooks Author, a free authoring tool.

Print Like a Pro

Epson’s WorkForce Pro series (WP-4540 and WP-4530 all-in-ones and the WP-4020 ink jet printer) delivers ink cost savings of up to 50 percent compared to color laser printers. The all-in-ones feature 16 ISO ppm black and 11 ISO ppm color single-sided printing and the fastest two-sided printing on the market at 9.2 ISO ppm black and 7.1 ISO ppm color.

Laundry Made Easy

WaveVision, a web-based laundry services portal from Heartland Payment Systems, aims to take the stress out of dorm laundry. The online portal allows students to view the status of washers and dryers before making the trip to the laundry facility, eliminating unnecessary trips and wasted time. They can also register to receive text messages, alerting them when their laundry cycles are complete.

CourseSmart, a provider of eTextbooks and digital course materials, is making cutting back on paper easy with the launch of CourseSmart for Android 1.0, a mobile app designed for the Android Operating System.

The VMware View Client for the Apple iPad enables users to access their Windows desktops, applications, and data from anywhere, virtually. Combined with VMware View, the VMware View Client delivers a desktop optimized for the high-resolution, multi-touch display of the iPad. It's available for free in the Apple App Store.
