Apps for Education

Three new apps from Apple are designed to enhance mobile education. Students can engage with textbooks with interactive animations, diagrams, photos, and videos using iBooks 2 for iPad, featuring iBooks textbooks. The iBooks app is free, and most titles in the iBookstore are priced at $14.99 or less. Anyone with a Mac can create iBooks textbooks using iBooks Author, a free authoring tool. A third free app, iTunes U, provides access to a catalog of free education content, including free courses created and taught by instructors from leading institutions

Interact on Any Display

The Polycom UC Board solution aids communication and collaboration in video conferences by allowing participants to use their existing video display screens and mobile devices as interactive whiteboards for video collaboration. The UC Board combines a compact infrared sensor that attaches to a whiteboard or LCD screen and a wireless stylus that meeting hosts can use to sketch, write, and annotate with. Set-up is fast and easy via a direct USB connection to a Polycom HDX system
in the room. The solution is available for $1,999.

Screen Concealer

The Tensioned Conference Electrol electric screen from Da-Lite allows a projection screen and video conferencing camera to be completely concealed when not in use. The housing is designed to be recessed in the ceiling and includes a trim flange for a clean looking installation. When retracted, the screen surface and video conferencing shelf arms are completely concealed by closure doors, allowing room aesthetics to remain intact. The Tensioned Conference Electrol is available in sizes up to 10 feet wide with any of Da-Lite’s flexible front projection surfaces. Pricing ranges from $17,500 to $20,197.

Attracting Athletes

The Athletes Network, designed to connect the 7.6 million high school athletes in the United States with college coaches, assists athletes, parents, and coaches through the entire recruiting process. With interactive, data-driven search results, the network allows coaches to quickly and efficiently access talent before an in-person visit. Membership is free for coaches.
