Textbooks and Recruitment Go Social

The Good to Kno Facebook application from Kno gives students a selection of more than 100,000 e-textbook titles for purchase. Students can browse, purchase, and have instant access to their books and class materials on the social networking site where they already spend an average of three hours per day. From Facebook, Kno is also giving 19 million students access to e-textbooks through Kno for Web, which works through any web browser on a personal computer or tablet. The app is available free ofcharge.

 

 

 

A new feature within Higher Reach by Jenzabar allows colleges and universities to create a Facebook Catalogue Application that connects the course catalog directly with the school’s Facebook page. Because prospects and students are spending more time on social media sites than ever before, this feature makes it easy for students to browse the catalog and register for courses without leaving the Facebook site. The feature is included with the Higher Reach software, priced between $2,000 and $6,000 per year, depending on institution size.

 

 

Also entering the Facebook e-textbook market is e-textbook and digital course materials provider CourseSmart. Through a new service, students have instant access to CourseSmart’s catalog of e-textbooks directly from Facebook via a secure shopping cart and through a commerce tab on the company’s brand page. Special functionality allows students to search by title, ISBN, or keyword and add materials to their cart and leave them there until they’re ready to check out, when they are linked to a secure checkout page at CourseSmart’s website.

 

 

 

 

 

An enhancement to TargetX’s Student Recruitment Manager (SRM) integrates Facebook and Twitter into its CRM system. The product allows admissions employees to track what their prospects are saying on the two social networking sites, allowing them to pair this information with what they already have in SRM to build a more complete profile of each prospective student. That information also makes it possible to connect content with individuals and use that information to build relationships. Pricing varies.
