Mitchell E. Daniels Jr.

Indiana Gov. Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. will put his two terms’ worth of experience as Indiana’s 49th governor to use as president of Purdue University (Ind.) beginning in January. He will be its 12th president, succeeding France A. Córdova, who stepped down July 15. Daniels was elected governor in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 with the largest number of votes ever recorded by any candidate for public office in state history.

J. Michael Adams, president of Fairleigh Dickinson University (N.J.) since 1999, has retired, effective June 30.

As of May 1, Joseph Pepe is executive vice president of administration at Hodges University (Fla.). He was previously executive director of student educational centers at Nova Southeastern University (Fla.).

Steven W. Nape is now dean of enrollment management at Sweet Briar College (Va.).

After serving as interim chief investment officer at Cornell since May 2011, A.J. Edwards has officially been appointed CIO.

Lewis Evitts Thayne will be the 18th president of Lebanon Valley College (Pa.), as of August 1. He was previously vice president for advancement at Franklin & Marshall College (Pa.).

Eric B. Braun is now dean of students at Vermont Technical College.

Stephen Nameth is dean and chief administrative officer of Kent State University (Ohio) Columbiana County campuses, as of August 1.

Joseph Silver Jr., provost at Clark Atlanta University, will lead Alabama State University beginning September 17.

Deborah L. Estrin has been hired as a professor of computer science, and the first professor for CornellNYC Tech, the new tech campus being developed on Roosevelt Island in New York City. She is the Founding Director of the Center for Embedded Networked Sensing and a professor of computer science at UCLA.
