Charging Station at Temple University

University Business, October 2012
At Temple, students can charge their mobile devices while catching up with friends.

Temple University (Pa.) is the latest campus to install Solar Dok picnic tables from EnerFusion. The tables, which are made from recycled plastic and cost $10,495 each (plus shipping), have built-in solar panels that provide a place to recharge numerous types of mobile devices while socializing. “We’ve been told students start using them immediately,” says spokesman Tom Davis, adding that there are about 20 tables deployed at 10 campuses so far, including the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, Texas A&M University, and the University of Rochester. The tables are designed to be all-weather, but Davis agrees usage will drop off when there is a foot of snow on the ground. At Temple, three tables are being used, two near the TECH Center and one outside Saxbys Coffee. The concept fits in with campus sustainability goals and provides students with an up-close look at the technology.
